The session will be held on Tuesday, May 22 and will be a single session and not part of a wider inquiry.
Prior to the hearing, the committee said it will look at two main issues. Firstly, whether increased police funding has been reflected in police performance and crime reduction, including numbers of front line police officers. And secondly, what the scale and implications of a possible tighter funding settlement for the years 2008-11 would be.
Witnesses to the inquiry are expected to include representatives from the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Association of Police Authorities, the Police Federation and the Police Superintendents’ Association.
In addition, Tony McNulty, the Home Office Minister for Policing, Security and Community Safety is also expected to give evidence.
In advance of the session the committee is seeking short written submissions from interested parties, highlighting issues which should be raised at this meeting. Such evidence should not exceed 1,000 words and should be submitted no later than Friday 4 May.
The session will be open to the public on a first come, first served basis. There is no system for the prior reservation of seats in Committee Rooms. It is advisable to allow about 20 minutes to pass through security checks. Committee rooms are subject to change: those interested in attending the session should check the Committee Information Line on 020 7219 2033 a few days before the meeting.
