Aperio is a new technology developed to upgrade mechanical doors and wirelessly connect them to an existing electronic access control system, in turn providing end users with a simple, intelligent method of raising the security level of their premises at a lower cost than would be incurred with a traditional system.
“Our ambition is to offer flexible access control door locking and opening solutions,” stated Eric Beaudru of ASSA Abloy. “Aperio wireless technology has been designed with and for end users for both effective and simple operation by security and IT managers. Aperio escutcheons and cylinders are now cost-effective extensions of Nedap’s established AEOS security management system, thus allowing for a greater number of doors to be controlled.”
For Beaudru, this arrangement represents a “major breakthrough” as ASSA Abloy’s expertise in the door control environment is now available together with the most advanced access control technology, providing security, safety and convenience for all end users.”
Market research conducted by FutureLab
ASSA Abloy is a global leader in door opening solutions, dedicated to satisfying end user needs for security, safety and convenience. The Group has a global presence, with companies in over 50 countries. Since it was founded back in 1994, the company has grown from a regional concern to an international ‘conglomerate’ employing 32,000 members of staff.
The first products to incorporate the Aperio technology were presented at the Security Essen Trade Fair last October.
“Market research conducted via ASSA Abloy’s FutureLab showed that security and IT managers around the world ranked an efficient way to expand and upgrade their existing access control systems as one of their most important needs. We responded with Aperio – a wireless technology that provides a cost-effective answer to client needs as well as a unique market opportunity for ourselves and our channel partners,” explained Ake Sund, executive vice-president and director of market and business development at ASSA Abloy.
“Many premises already have an access control system for the most important doors and mechanical locks on the rest of the doors. With Aperio, managers can afford to connect these and gain an increased security level without having to change all of their existing access control cards.”
The typical customer for Aperio technology would be a security, IT or facilities manager of a company with 500+ employees, struggling to improve the security level and controllability of the premises without having to invest a fortune or to exchange existing doors.
Full benefits from electronic access control
Speaking about the new arrangement between the two companies, Nedap’s Joffry Maltha added: “Until now, organisations were unable to benefit fully from everything electronic access control has to offer. Secure, low-cost and easy-to-manage RFID cards could only be used at doors wired to the electronic access control system. Access to all other doors was still dependent on traditional patented keys, which are hard to keep track of, particularly in larger organisations. With the Aperio integration in AEOS 2.3, we’re presenting a truly ‘all-round’ access control system.”
Nedap, of course, is a leading manufacturer of IP and Web-based security management systems. Its access control component is among the most advanced in the industry. The AEOS 2.3 security management system offers end users a complete access control solution for managing both offline and online doors.
