The Fire Industry Association (newly formed by the members of the British Fire Protection Systems Association and the Fire Extinguishing Trades Association) has appointed Martin Duggan as its new general manager.
Martin has extensive experience within fire industry trade associations, having worked for the last six years as export manager and, more recently, as commercial manager of the BFPSA, FETA and the Fire Industry Confederation (FIC) – the ‘political’ arm of the BFPSA and FETA. Prior to that he was export sales manager for one of the UK’s leading firefighting vehicle manufacturers.
Martin is already well know to many members of the newly formed FIA, having headed up a number of trade missions throughout the world in his capacity as FIC export manager. He takes on his new role at an exciting time, as the FIA officially becomes a legal entity from April. The FIA will draw on the work of the BFPSA and FETA to build a new organisation to represent the active fire protection industry within the wider fire safety arena.
“I have been heavily involved in the formation of the new trade association and am looking forward to the challenges that my new role will bring, he commented. “I am committed to delivering first class benefits and services to our members, while also ensuring that we maintain our position as a very clear and coherent voice in the world of fire safety.”
The FIA has also announced its intention also to recruit a part-time chief executive officer. This role will focus on strategic direction and high level external liaison to progress the objective of the FIA to become the major trade association representing all sectors of the fire industry in the future. In the meantime, David Bonnett will continue in his temporary role, providing consultative support to Martin.
Martin holds an HNC in Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Management Studies, citing sport (predominantly football) as his main interest outside of the working environment, along with time spent with his young family.
