A new guide for specifiers of watermist systems has been published by the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association.
Technical Guidance Note, Watermist systems, Compliance with current fire safety guidance has been developed by the UK watermist co-ordination group and is split into seven sections covering the following topics:
- An introduction to watermist and how it works
- The role of standards for commercial and residential installations and how they should be applied
- The supply route and certification of installers/equipment
- Validating competence of installers of related systems
- Commissioning and maintenance of watermist systems
- Application and limitations of systems
- Bespoke testing – approach and purpose
The guidance is designed to be read in conjunction with DD 8489 – 1: 2011, Fixed fire protection systems, Industrial and commercial watermist systems, Code of practice for design and installation; and with the draft European standard prEN 14972, Fixed fire-fighting systems – Watermist systems – Design and installation. NFPA 750 also contains details of the minimum requirements for the design, installation, maintenance and testing of watermist fire protection systems.
“This Technical Guidance Note provides easy access to a range of third-party information to illustrate the benefits of incorporating watermist fire suppression into a particular building design,” says BAFSA.
“It will allow all those involved in the building process – such as property developers, authorities having jurisdiction, architects, designers and end users – to determine the most advantageous approach to compliance with building regulations. It also includes consideration of cost savings which can be achieved.”
