The message follows a statement last month which admitted that defining the intruder alarm standards continues to challenge the industry.
Alex Carmichael, the BSIA’s Technical and Membership Services Director said in a written statement:
“The incorporation of EN 50131-1: 2006 into PD6662 was due in October 2007. Due to delays in the publication of an amendment to the standard, it has been necessary to defer this incorporation.
“So what does this mean for installers? Well, simply that there is no change in the current situation.”
He continued, “The industry should continue to use PD6662:2004 (incorporating EN 50131-1:2004) including amendment 1 and amendment 2. Manufacturers’ products should continue to be graded and environmentally classified.”
The revision of PD 6662:2004 will not take place until 2008. Therefore, installers are advised to keep installing to that standard until further notice.
