Norwegian heritage buildings protected by suppression system

National art treasures as well as IT and telecoms facilities are being protected at three of Norway’s most important public buildings.

The National Library, National Gallery and Munch Museum have been fitted with Sapphire fire suppression systems from Tyco Fire Suppression & Building Products. The three buildings house priceless works of art including over 4500 paintings, valued collections of manuscripts, books, music, radio and TV programmes and a permanent collection of paintings by Edvard Munch.

The client wanted a suppression agent which would extinguish a fire in the shortest possible time, would leave precious exhibits undamaged if discharged and is safe if discharged in occupied areas.

A Sapphire fire protection system using 3M Novec 1230 fire protection fluid was chosen for all three projects. The low vapour pressure fluid is stored in cylinders, then converts into a colourless and odourless gas when discharged and leaves no residue.
