G4S Security Services (UK) has appointed John Whitwam as managing director of its Gurkha Services division. Whitwam – who joins from the Pilgrims Security Group – is responsible for the business’ strategic development, expanding the division’s service offering and increasing G4S’ share of the CNI security market.

With Ascom Security Communications entering the UK alarms market for the first time, James Winter has joined as UK sales, marketing and customer relationship manager, with Graeme Lewington appointed as technical sales support and technical engineer. Winter is chairman of the UK BSI Technical Committee for electronic security, having served as a security specialist with BT Redcare. Lewington also worked at BT for over three decades, and is now tasked with supporting all client applications.

Securitas-Alert Services – the independent monitoring division of Securitas – has added to its customer support operation with the appointment of two area business managers. Louise Scholes joins from WRS to take care of the central northern England region. Meantime, Paul French transfers from a separate Securitas business division to become area manager for the East and West Midlands, central England and South Wales. The company offers intruder alarm, CCTV vehicle track and trace and lone worker protection services for installers and end users alike.

As part of the process of continually enhancing the services provided for occupants, the management team at Chesterford Research Park – part of the South Cambridgeshire ‘bio-science cluster’ with 250 acres for science and technology-based companies to operate – has appointed Karl Smith as security and park services manager. Karl previously served with the Royal Artillery for nine years.

The Fire and Security Association (FSA) has announced the appointment of Pat Allen – director of the Abel Alarm Company – as its new vice-chairman. Allen has served on many BSI Technical and British Security Industry Association Section Committees. Most recently, Allen has worked alongside the Chief Fire Officers’ Association in relation to its revised policy on the reduction of unwanted fire alarm signals.

Chiron Security Communications has followed up the introduction of its Iris Touch IP alarm transmission and monitoring system by strengthening its management team. Lodewijk van Ommeren joins as sales and marketing manager with a brief to expand Chiron’s range of alarms-over-IP solutions. Having worked for Securitas and Lucent Technologies, van Ommeren will look at targeting sales expansion in Germany, Poland, Switzerland and Belgium.

Data security solutions specialist Utimaco Safeware has appointed Matthew Robinson as executive vice-president for the EMEA Region. Robinson is now responsible for sales in the Benelux and Nordic areas, as well as France and the UK. Joining from Voltage, Matthew previously worked at CipherTrust as UK sales manager and has also been in the employ of Hitachi and Toshiba.

TeleEye – the Hong Kong-based producer of CCTV surveillance and BS 8418-compliant transmission equipment – has appointed Andrew Jackson to the post of account director in the UK. Andrew spent 17 years with Gardiner Security (now ADI-Gardiner), latterly as CCTV divisional manager, before moving to Baxall where he specialised in export sales and business development.

Global Secure Systems (GSS) has confirmed the appointment of Robin Hollington to director of consulting. As former head of consulting for Peapod (UK) – now incorporated within GSS – Hollington’s commitment to the cause paid dividends, with consulting services contributing 50% to Peapod (UK)’s combined business in 2006. Previously, Hollington served for 20 years as an officer in the Royal Marines, during which time he gained an MSc in information systems.

Charles Volschenk – who took up the post of sales director at Geutebruck last August – has now also assumed overall responsibility for marketing at the CCTV company. Volschenk previously served as sales and managing director designate at MultiVid (PTY), the company’s marketing partner in South Africa.

Specialist CCTV recording and storage systems manufacturer Visimetrics has appointed a business development manager to focus on the company’s growing IP-centric recording solutions. Mark Blackwood joins with more than 20 years’ security industry experience under his belt, most recently gained at ADI where he was responsible for the business development of IP CCTV projects.

Checkpoint Systems – the shrink management solutions provider for loss prevention specialists – has made three strategic appointments. Allen Hector, Jackie Sullivan and James West all join as account managers to help the company in continuing to build alliances with both current and future clients.
