On the Move – September 2008

Former Postcomm chief investigation officer Derek Webster has been appointed head of security for Wilson James’ aviation and logistics division. Based at the Heathrow Construction and Logistics Centre in Colnbrook, this division is contracted by the British Airports Authority to manage the logistics, supply chain and security for all nine major construction projects running at Heathrow Airport.

The SmartWater Foundation – a not-for-profit company established by SmartWater to provide charitable donations in support of crime reduction initiatives – has appointed former Leicestershire Constabulary chief constable and Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary Sir Keith Povey QPM as chairman. Sir Keith has also served as chairman of the Police Leadership Development Board and of the Senior Appointments Panel.

Dennis Ricketts has been elected deputy international chairman at the International Professional Security Association following the inaugural meeting of the recently-elected International Council. Previous office holder Justin Bentley – now the organisation’s chief executive – felt it was “no longer appropriate” to hold this elected position alongside his new role. Bipin Joshi of Shield Security Services becomes honorary treasurer and Simon Smith takes on the international membership liaison role.

Frontline Security Solutions – the CCTV, access control and intruder alarms specialist – has appointed Jason Hillier as business development manager. Previously at VSS, Hillier has worked in the security sector since 1991, beginning as an engineer and progressing to sales, winning core business and developing new vertical markets.

Following continued export growth, TDSi has further strengthened its sales team by appointing Alan Hardy to the position of business development manager (EMEA). Hardy boasts considerable experience of working in overseas markets, both in mainland Europe and the Middle East where he has served BMW and Deutsche Aerospace. Most recently, Alan worked with Wayfarer Transit Systems where he was responsible for securing cashless payment systems.

Emizon – the provider of secure, managed dual-path alarm signalling services designed for IP networks – has promoted Glyn Rogers to sales director. The announcement follows hot-on-the-heels of three additional business managers being appointed to serve the company’s growing UK installer base, and the launch of the Global 21 service in Australia.

Vehicular access control and traffic management concern APT Security Systems has appointed Chris Rowlands to the position of general manager. Most recently, Chris has served Smiths Detection as commercial manager and at Smiths Detection Military (where he was the commercial director).

Abloy (UK) has appointed a new market development manager to strengthen and increase the growth of its high security markets. Tom Jenkins joins with 27 years’ experience, having spent five of them managing and specifying on projects for blue chip end users. Jenkins will now develop the areas of defence and Government.

Eruma plc – the AIM-traded specialist provider of counter-terrorism solutions – has just appointed General Sir Alistair Irwin as strategic advisor to the Board of Directors. Sir Alistair boasts over 35 years’ military experience, culminating his career as Adjutant General (the Army Board member responsible for personnel matters throughout the British Army).

Craig Hollingworth has been recruited as director of channel sales by Masternaut Three X, the vehicle tracking and mobile resource management specialist. Hollingworth previously spent 13 years with BT and O2, where he was responsible for launching the Blackberry in the UK and delivering mobile data solutions for partners such as Dell. Hollingworth is now entrusted with developing the company’s dedicated channel partner programme.

Pentagon Protection – global specialist in the supply and installation of enhanced glass protection – has announced that Haytham ElZayn (a non-executive director of the company since October 2005) will assume the role of non-executive chairman with immediate effect. The new position allows chief executive Alan Nicholl to focus on the day-to-day running of the company.

Access control solutions developer Delta Controls has appointed John Brough to the position of director of technical services for the UK. Brough joins with considerable commercial and product experience, including 18 years in building management roles with Tyco Fire and Security, ADT Fire and Security and Thorn Security.

Paxton Access – the access control systems developer for end users – is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Walker as Scottish field sales engineer. Walker will provide comprehensive support to all Scottish-based end users.
