OnSSI and Firetide providing wireless solutions

OnSSI say that the alliance provides the “fastest mesh network available today” and the wireless system is already being used by police in Dallas as part of their fight against crime.

By integrating Firetide’s multi-service mesh networking technology and OnSSI’s IP video surveillance solution, Dallas Police Department is said to have ‘virtually expanded’ its presence with remote surveillance. Captured footage can also be used immediately and for future reference during investigations and subsequent prosecutions.

The majority of cameras in the system are said to have PTZ capabilities, providing officers with the ability to remotely monitor and follow activities in real time. The Firetide mesh nodes which form the wireless video network operate in the 4.9 GHz spectrum which is licensed by the FCC and designated for public safety agencies and first responders.

Gadi Piran, President and CTO of OnSSI said: “Users employing this integrated solution will benefit from the unprecedented speed at which they can deliver the data they need without the inherent hindrances of slow networks or an overflow of incoming data.”

Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide said the system could also be used widely in the private sector.

“As the success in Dallas showed, rapidly retrieving and managing all types of information – including real-time video surveillance – is now possible when public safety wireless networks have Firetide as their foundation,” he said.
