Police to be equipped with body-worn video systems

The order for 330 ‘Videobadge’ CCTV units will provide Grampian police officers with the ability to provide evidence through clear and accurate recorded digital video, says the company.

Following a successful pilot of the body-worn video cameras in Aberdeen over the past 18 months, the scheme is now being rolled out across other areas of Grampian region.

The new cameras, which are worn on the upper body, are said to be smaller and lighter than a mobile phone.

SCG has previously supplied similar body-worn CCTV systems for parking attendants in Perth and Glasgow, where the systems have been used to help settle parking disputes and deter verbal abuse from motorists.

Paul Gibson, managing director of SCG, said: “We are delighted to have secured this order from Grampian Police. The body-worn CCTV system is now proving its worth in a number of different arenas and is playing a major role in community safety.”
