The Sage Gateshead is a stunning and unique home for live music in the Northeast. But with a ceiling height of some 40m, conventional detectors may have been problematic, so reflective beam detectors were used instead.
Sixteen Fireray beam detection devices from Fire Fighting Enterprises have been installed as part of the fire detection system. According to the company, their single end cabling, internal alignment aid, low level test unit and ability to cope with building shift (up to 50 mm in the case of the Sage), made them suitable for this building.
The exciting and dramatic architecture was designed by Lord Foster’s team, and consists of two performance spaces of acoustic excellence; the Northern Rock Foundation Hall – a 25 room music education centre; the Barbour Room; a recording studio; five bars and a cafe and brasserie.
