The cameras feature Pan-Focus technology with x2.6 lens depth of field designed to keep all objects in focus no matter how near or far from the camera.
The technology, which does not require any manual focus adjustment, was one of the deciding factors in the camera selection by Serco, the DLR operator. Used are VDC-DP7585P day/night vandal resistant domes and VCC-XZ400P weatherproof day/night zoom cameras.
Michael Evans, IT manager and communications engineer, said that, in conjunction with the contractors, they carried out extensive technical and operational comparisons between a number of manufacturers’ cameras.
“The depth of field of the Sanyo cameras was certainly one of the features that impressed us but the ease at which the cameras could be remotely set up, was also a major attraction.”
Now Sanyo cameras have been included in the DLR rolling CCTV upgrade programme “including Stratford International Station, which has such an important role in serving the 2012 Olympics”.
The GB pound 7.5m station, part of a regeneration process for the area, was built because of the unusually large gap between two existing stations – All Saints and Devons Road – one of the longest gaps on the DLR.
