Datasat and existing investors such as NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) say they now plan to maximise the potential of Scyron’s research and development in the UK and overseas.
Datasat say they have purchased the shares to allow them to provide a complementary secure network on which to transmit Scyron’s applications and solutions to remote locations around the world.
They say this will allow images of suspicious incidents to be beamed to control rooms overseas via satellite, adding another communication platform to the wireless and 3GSM systems currently employed.
Phil Emmel, Managing Director of Datasat said:
“Datasat is excited about its investment, which – together with the other investors – endorses Scyron’s aim to be the world leader in intelligent security and surveillance technology.”
Scyron’s Research and Development Lab, at the University of Birmingham Research Park, holds worldwide patents for its ‘intelligent surveillance’ systems. According to the company, these systems can trigger CCTV cameras to record specific events while ignoring others.
Scyron say this offers significant time and cost-saving benefits. For example, only recording people who enter a doorway but ignoring passers-by is said to reduce the time it takes to manually analyse footage by more than 90%.
