One of the main areas the company hopes to focus on is data subject access requests. Under the Data Protection Act an individual can request an organisation to supply him or her with a copy of any data that is held by the company – including CCTV footage.
In the event of such a request, where SectorGuard has been appointed the data co-ordinator, the operators will analysis the image data to locate the information requested on behalf of its clients, in compliance with ICO guidelines.
The suite can also handle information requests from police forces, and ensure that a sealed copy of the tape is available in case the data needs to be presented in court.
SectorGuard’s expansion into the DPA area follows its acquisition in June of Euro Security Systems, which was one of the largest data co-ordinators in regard to purpose four of the Data Protection Act – handling access requests.
The new suite was opened on October 17, 2007 by Baroness Ruth Henig, chairman of the Security Industry Authority.
Opening the new service, David Marks CEO of SectorGuard said. “We want to ensure that when we install CCTV on behalf of clients they are aware of the law pertaining to CCTV and the implication of the Data Protection Act 1998.
“Due to SectorGuard being a convergence business we are able to offer the client an all round service from the installation of CCTV to an Officer surveying the images. With our Data Subject access procedures we are at the forefront of this type of service delivery”.
