The partners provided the electronic security systems in the stadiums that staged the 26th biennial tournament across Ghana.
The high profile event was televised around the world and ended with last month’s final in Accra when Egypt defended the cup with a 1-0 win against Cameroon.
Because so many top international players and high ranking football executives attended, security was more important than ever before.
Having previously worked with Pro Security Ghana Ltd at the celebrations for 50 years of independence, Sicura Systems Ltd was once again requested to partner up with the company to provide security at four stadiums around the country.
Says Sicura’s chief operating officer, Vincenzo Roberti: “In this latest project we started to work on the four purpose-built stadiums around Ghana. The equipment was configured in the UK prior to being shipped and installed by Pro Security Ghana.
“At the two main stadia, the Ohen Djan in Accra and the Baba Yara in Kamasi, we installed 80 Bosch CCTV cameras, and a further 20 cameras at each of the smaller stadia. “
He said the Bosch Dinion cameras were “ideally suited” to this application because they provided “high quality pictures even in poor lighting conditions”.
Although the car parks had areas of low light, the camera’s 15-bit imaging technology and 540 TV-line resolution produced “extremely sharp and detailed images”.
In advance of the Independence Day celebrations, Sicura and Pro Security had worked together to install 200 cameras at high profile sites across Ghana.
Using Sicura’s “DigiFend-NDM” software platform, the new cameras installed were monitored over IP by a number of control rooms situated throughout the country.
The sophisticated system is one of the first of its kind in Africa, said Roberti.
Because of the DigiFend-NDM platform, the IP network is able to offer distributed archive storage and real time access to live and recorded content from any control room.
It meant “maximum security levels” across the country “from airports to roads and both inside and outside the stadiums”.
Sicura Systems also supplied Bosch VIPx1600 video encoders and the DiBos recording system.
