SIA and partners provide hostile reception for rogue Coatbridge officers

The operation targeted security operatives working at seven construction sites in Coatbridge.

Of the 10 security operatives checked, six did not hold valid SIA licences and two were not displaying their SIA licence. Both are offences under the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

Christy Hopkins, an SIA head of investigation, said: “We will keep targeting security sites and keep the environment as hostile as possible for rogue security firms. We cannot let them have a stronghold in the security industry.

“By working together with our partners we send a strong message that non-compliance with the law will not be tolerated.”

Detective Sergeant Ian Connelly, who headed the joint operation, said: “I am pleased with the results of the this operation. We are sending out a strong message to companies who provide security to the building industry – you have to comply with legislation. Companies who are employing security providers must ensure that they are employing credible firms.”
