The Baroness will leave at the end of her term of appointment after serving two terms as chairman of the Regulator.
The news emerges ahead of the Regulator’s 2012 Stakeholder Conference, which takes place in central London tomorrow.
Commenting on this development, Lord Taylor said: “I would like to thank Baroness Henig for her enthusiasm and commitment to the Security Industry Authority during the past six years. She has led the SIA through challenging times and has been inspirational in her support of her chief executive and staff.”
The Home Office will appoint a new chairman in due course.
Baroness Ruth Henig CBE speaks on policing issues in the House of Lords and is a member of the House of Lords European Scrutiny Committee which covers social policies and consumer protection.
The Baroness has extensive experience within the police and security sector and is currently serving as a member of the Independent Police Commission which is chaired by Lord Stevens. Baroness Henig is president of the Association of Police Authorities and was formerly chairman of Lancashire Police Authority and a member of the National Criminal Justice Board.
In 2000, Baroness Henig was awarded a CBE for her services to policing, and in 2002 was appointed as a deputy lieutenant for Lancashire.
In June 2004, the Baroness was made a life peer as Baroness Henig of Lancaster.
Baroness Henig’s appointment at the SIA began on 15 January 2007 for a three-year period, with her re-appointment running for a further three years to 14 January 2013.
Building The Future Special Award
As reported on Info4Security, Baroness Ruth Henig was honoured at the 2012 Security Excellence Awards with a Building the Future Special Award for her significant contribution to the regulated security sector.
The Baroness was praised for her tireless efforts to build trust and confidence between the Regulator and those operating within the private security sector.
The award was presented by Interconnective’s managing director Bobby Logue and Brian Sims, media solutions manager for UBM Live’s Security and Fire Portfolio.
