Designed by Redvers Hocken Associates and commissioned by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, it is said to be one of the most effective CCTV systems currently operating, and a major weapon in the prevention and detection of crime.
This GB pound 500,000 investment forms an integral part of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s crime prevention and traffic management strategy.
It includes the integration of the existing 100 plus hi-tech CCTV cameras within Neath & Port Talbot town centres, and the creation of a new state of the art CCTV control room, protected by a further 50 site CCTV surveillance cameras.
CDS installed a bespoke security system using hi-tech digital CCTV cameras feeding via fibre optic cables and central video servers into 52 monitors in the control room. Four operators have PTZ touch screen control. Watermarked images are recorded digitally in real time onto the control room’s central hard drive storage system and stored until overwritten or archived for future evidence. All operator functions provide traceability when gathering evidence.
One of the challenges within the contract, which was a major priority set by Neath Port Talbot CBC, was to minimise the amount of system downtime caused through the control room relocation and changing from the old analogue VHS CCTV system to the new state of the art digital system. The complex changeover from the old VHS system was achieved in under seven days.
CDS has secured significant town centre CCTV contracts within 54 local authorities throughout the UK.
