Spotlight on new emergency lighting range

[

The new Xscape range of lighting has been unveiled by Illuminex to take advantage of the latest in solid state light source and battery technologies. The range automatically self-tests to meet the requirements of BS EN 5266 and the results are stored for recovery at a convenient time.

They can be recovered either by using the ‘walk by’ data capture capability of a hand held receiver, or in centrally-controlled systems, where each luminaire has a unique address. That data is automatically transferred to the control panel from where it can be recovered for long term storage on any PC.

The company says the range also gives performance improvements, a significant reduction in the cost of ownership and a much reduced impact on the environment when measured against current technology.

The range consists of flush and surface mounting standard and mini downlighters for open areas and corridors, bulkhead fittings for internal and external use, surface and flush mounting exit signs, retrofitable inverter kits for existing fluorescent ceiling fittings, central monitoring panels, a PC based graphic user interface, and walk-by hand-held test or data collection units.

All versions are based around a high output solid-state light source that has a life expectancy of over 60,000 hours (five times that of a fluorescent lamp). The manufacturers claim that they use 98% less energy than current fluorescent lighting over their total lifetime. The units are supported by lithium ion backup batteries that contain no heavy metals and are managed by embedded intelligence. The whole system is also constantly monitored, as well as the mains supply and internal temperature.
