The new equipment replaces the analogue system in the Academy’s ship’s engine room simulator, used for student stress testing, which was producing unacceptable image quality in low light levels. High levels of background noise in the test environment also meant audio capture was very difficult.
Milestone XProtect Professional IP video management software was installed on a standard Dell PowerEdge tower server, and provides the user interface for viewing live and recorded video from six IQeye 701 megapixel cameras from IQinVision, using 4.5-10mm lenses from Lenstation and an Axis 214 PTZ network camera.
They are networked using a Netgear Prosafe FSM7326TP, a fully managed switch with PoE and Gigabit connectivity. The video is archived in the Milestone database onto a Buffalo TeraStation with a further terabyte of storage capability.
