TOA SX-2000: making sense of multi-site projects

The “most sophisticated, integrated voice alarm and PA system ever offered” by TOA – the SX-2000 audio management system – is a fully scaleable, network-enabled product line that makes the distribution of BGM, paging and emergency messaging across large buildings and multiple-site facilities easier than ever.

With the SX-2000SM System Manager as its ‘hub’, the range offers a variety of options configured to offer maximum flexibility in system design and installation, including multiple audio input and output units, fireman’s microphone stations and remote mic extensions.

Minimum system configuration is eight inputs by eight outputs, expandable to a maximum of 64 inputs and 128 outputs (with as many as 776 control ins and outs, 16 audio buses plus 2 emergency buses).

Analogue back-up facility

To provide absolutely failsafe operation, the SX-2000 can remain fully-functional on DC power, and offers both network and power-supply redundancy. It also offers an additional analogue back-up facility. Malfunctions or failures in the system are detected within 100 seconds, generating both a display alert and an audible signal.

At the same time, a failure log is created, transmitted via TCP/IP and can be stored on a connected PC. The system also constantly checks and measures speaker impedance values to guard against potential overloads or wiring errors.

“We all know that network-enabled PA/VA solutions are the future, and no product exemplifies this better than the SX-2000 Series,” commented Brett Downing, sales and marketing director at TOA Europe. “Being IP-based means the system can sit on either a Cat 5 copper infrastructure or a fibre-optic one, or on a combination of the two.”

That last point is particularly important when you consider the long distances that are often involved in today’s multi-site installations – where several campuses in a university need to be connected together, for example.

VM-3000 Series PA/VA system

Combining an emergency voice alarm system with digital audio PA, paging and BGM functionality, the VM-3000 Series from TOA brings new levels of flexibility to the deployment of PA/VA in small to medium-sized commercial projects – all at an affordable price.

Suitable for most applications and including retail stores, nursing homes, schools, fitness clubs and smaller shopping centres, the VM-3000 offers a range of emergency functions (including built-in voice alarm and continuous speaker line monitoring without interruption of BGM distribution or paging announcements).

All audio is digitally processed and controlled, resulting in PA broadcasting, paging and BGM delivery of consistently high sound quality and intelligibility.

The system is controlled by a choice of two system amplifiers, and can be expanded using up to nine VM extension amplifiers (each of which offers six assignable speaker zone outputs to give a maximum of 60 speaker zones with their own programmable volume setting). High quality, electronic voice messages are built in, and the whole system has been designed as a ‘one-box’ package that’s easy to set-up and maintain.

Remote configuration and maintenance

Speaking about the new system, Brett Downing commented: “We’ve brought all of our 50 years’ experience of emergency broadcast systems to bear in the design of the VM-3000. The system is compact and can be set up directly from its front panel without the need for connection to a PC, while dedicated software is also available for those installers who want to configure, maintain and update the system remotely.”

The VM-3000 Series is available now through TOA Europe’s authorised dealer network.
