Travelex selects IP monitoring at T5

Rob Page – the company’s retail security manager for the UK and Europe – confirms that the decision to select Chiron Security Communications’ Iris alarm transmission and monitoring system marks a radical departure.

Working alongside its Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) partner ADT, Travelex has added value to its existing IT Wide Area Network by using this new system to transmit all alarm signals. Page pointed out to info4security that, after recouping the modest capital investment associated with equipment installation, he anticipates monitoring operation cost savings somewhere in the region of 70%.

“We held a successful trial of the Iris system at our retail head office in London. The system proved itself over a ten-month period,” commented Page. “This encouraged us to roll-out the technology across nine retail outlets at Terminal 5, in addition to a VAT Refund desk being operated on behalf of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. We had previously evaluated comparable equipment, but settled on the Chiron solution.”

Page added: “For some time now we’ve been aware of the benefits Chiron’s Iris system offers. Our experience during the head office trial period and during subsequent installations at Terminal 5 would indicate how well the company has worked with ADT to resolve immediate installation issues. We’re very much looking forward to reaping the operational cost savings Iris offers. We are also now actively considering a wider roll-out of the system across our branch network.”

Popularity with end users

Vikram Datar – Chiron Security Communications’ business development manager – added that Travelex’s experience demonstrates why the Iris alarm transmission and monitoring system is proving so popular with end users, security installers and ARCs alike. “Iris is supported by over 70 monitoring centres across Europe, and is applicable for many applications. Many alarm panel manufacturers are now offering Iris technology embedded within their panels. The system is independently certified to EN 50131 and EN 50136 approved to Grade 4 ATS-6.”

Datar concluded: “That’s why an increasing number of insurers are backing the system, allowing end customers to reap the benefits of Iris’ alarms-over-IP monitoring cost savings, added value functionality and future-proof technical capabilities.”
