A new high pressure water mist fire protection system has been unveiled by Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions. The company says that in comparison with equivalent sprinkler systems, the MicroDrop system offers improved protection, reduced water demand, lower installation costs and less asset damage following deployment.
The launch of the new system marks a shift by Tyco to focus more on high pressure water mist as the leading fire protection technology for industrial facilities, commercial property and public spaces, ahead of traditional sprinkler or low pressure systems.
“Water mist is an emerging and credible fire protection technology with properties that make it attractive to a range of applications where low water availability, consumption or discharge by the fire protection system is a major consideration,” explains Andrew Shiner, sales & marketing director (EMEA) of Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions. “With the growing concern for the environment, this technology is becoming increasingly important as customers look for solutions that are safer for people, property and the environment.”
MicroDrop works at a pressure of 100bar to deliver water as a fine atomised mist. This mist is quickly converted into steam that smothers the fire and prevents further oxygen from reaching it. At the same time, the evaporation creates a significant cooling effect.
