Use analogue cameras in IP

Axis has launched three encoders that support the H.264 video compression format.

Supporting “all types” of analogue camers, they convert analogue signals into digital streams to be sent over IP networks for viewing and recording on network computers.

The standalone Axis Q7401 integrates one analogue camera; the Q7406 Video Encoder Blade supports six cameras; and the Q7900 Rack supports up to 84 cameras.

Both the Q7401 and Q7406 support H.264 compression which is said to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements “by more than 80 per cent compared with Motion JPEG”. They also have “intelligence” such as enhanced video motion detection and active tampering alarms.

The 19-inch Q7900 Rack is an expandable system for installations with a high number of analogue cameras. It can handle multiple video streams from each analogue channel.
