Ipsotek’s video analytics suite is helping to protect over 300 expatriate, Gurkha and Afghan personnel at ArmorGroup’s Camp Anjuman in Kabul.
The system, which alerts guards to threats like perimeter intrusion and loitering, has been welcome by ArmorGroup logistics manager Ivor Wood.
“The Ipsotek system was set up within a few days and proved intuitive to use, even for non-English speaking operators,” he said. “The analytics have performed as promised.”
The US$3m camp is one of the only purpose-built commercial facilities in Afghanistan and features its own health clinic and a NATO-standard armoury. It acts as a base for ArmorGroup’s security operations in the country and aims to support British and American troops.
“As ArmorGroup continues to win major man-guarding contracts in high-risk countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq, we see technology such as this as an essential element of a fast-reaction capability where ‘response’ can already mean ‘too late’,” said Wood.
The Visual Intelligence Suite installed at the camp is generally used for applications where humans struggle to monitor events as they occur, including traffic management, people counting, border security and suspect packages.
Ipsotek claims that by building on a flexible core of behavioural algorithms, its development team can create “innumerable client-specific alarm triggers, covering individual needs”.
CEO Chris Gomersall said, “It is evidence that when presented with visual security challenges in the world’s most inhospitable and challenging environments, Ipsotek remains the default analytics choice”.
