Warehouse protection to take centre stage in parliamentary seminar

[

The role of sprinkler protection in large single storey warehouses will be one of the main topics to be debated at a Houses of Parliament seminar on 13 July. The event is organised by the all-party parliamentary fire and rescue group.

The morning session on warehouse protection will include presentations from Douglas Barnett, head of consumer risk management at AXA insurance, Stewart Kidd, secretary general of the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association, and Eric Cesmat of the French building research body, Center Scientifique et Technique du Batiment.

The afternoon session will see Mike Larking and Brian Martin from the Communities and Local Government department talking about justifying any changes to the building regulations, followed by an open forum. The guest speaker during lunch at the House of Lords will be Stewart Jackson MP, shadow minister for communities and local government.

Vice chair of the National Fire Sprinkler Network, Ronnie King, said: “This most exciting, informative and challenging seminar [comes] at a most opportune time to influence politicians on some key fire safety issues. Another full house is anticipated, as summer on the Commons terrace is always highly in demand.”
