A new detection system to provide warnings of outdoor fires even in large areas has been launched by Opgal, a provider of thermal imaging technology.
The Warning Eye system can monitor large areas from forests to factories, oil fields to nuclear stations, and wooden structures to urban areas. It has video analysis software for early detection of fires even as small as 10 cm in area, and it can identify numerous fire spots simultaneously at short and long range. Automatic alarms can be sent to local control rooms whenever fire, heat, or smoke is detected in the protected area. Its 360-degree scan and powerful CCD zoom features allow for better view orientation of the problem area.
The company says global warming is a contributing factor to the recent worldwide phenomenon of large outdoor fires, which have killed many and caused large
economic loss.
