National Home Security Week, from the 25th-31st August, is designed to encourage people to think about the simple security measures they can adopt to ward off burglars.
Sponsors Micromark say the sixth annual campaign will create a surge in demand for alarms, CCTV, security lighting and timers.
This year’s campaign will run over the summer holiday period, ending on the August bank holiday weekend. They say this traditionally busy DIY weekend will help to maximise sales.
A survey of 30 convicted burglars found that 67% of them would be put off targeting a house if it had an alarm or CCTV system installed. Micromark believe that, backed up by the financial and emotional implications of burglary, these statistics will boost sales.
Nathan Cole, Security Product Manager at Micromark said,
“Burglary is something people do worry about, but they often need persuading to take action, so National Home Security Week is all about highlighting the simple, affordable but very effective preventative measures everyone can take to improve their peace of mind.”
A separate study carried out on behalf of Micromark found that eight out of ten people would use anything to hand to fight off an unwanted intruder. Ten percent of men said they would use a gun.
