Designated ‘Assure’, the programme creates a recognised accreditation scheme for individuals involved with operational CCTV, including the police, local authorities and managers in the retail, industrial and private security sectors. Initially targeted at installations in Wales, the scheme is recognised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service via the NSI Silver Award scheme and may be deployed UK-wide.
Many of the existing courses on the market last for two or three days, but the ‘Assure’ programme is spread over 11 different modules and leads to a recognised vocational qualification. To date, three CCTV monitoring stations (at Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Conwy) have been assessed under the programme, which complements the Security Industry Authority’s own CCTV licensing scheme.
