Vancouver’s light rapid transit system SkyTrain – said to be the largest of its kind – is being fitted with IP video transmission equipment from IndigoVision.
The IP technology will be used to upgrade the existing analogue matrix VCR system, so that all the existing 880 cameras can continue being used, together with the existing matrix switching. At each of the network’s 33 stations, the cameras will be connected to IndigoVision’s 8000 transmitter/receiver units.
SkyTrain carries around 200,000 passengers a day along 49km of elevated track in and around Vancouver.
