Householders increasingly buying CCTV

Maplin, which has ramped up the number of CCTV cameras and kits it stocks, reports a 70 percent increase in sales of domestic security cameras in the part year.

Among householders, one of the most popular technologies are ranges that allow remote viewing over the internet.

Maplin marketing director David O’Reilly said: “This trend reveals that it’s not just the rich and famous who invest in high-tech security equipment, as more and more people look to take greater precautions to secure their homes.”

Maplin’s stock ranges from cheap dummy cameras to DVRs in the GB pound 300 range.

The retailer sold more CCTV kits at its stores in Leeds than anywhere else in the UK in the past year. Swansea was in second place with Nottingham third.
