Norstrom to speak at Next Generation CCTV conference

The high level event is targeted at organisations across the UK who want to use CCTV to improve the safety, security and management of their day-to-day operations.

In her address Norstrom plans to consider the question: ‘What is the future for

CCTV and Video Surveillance?’ She will be looking specifically at the growing application of CCTV beyond its traditional security role – and the opportunities that this brings. Norstrom will also stress that, against the backdrop of our so-called surveillance society, however CCTV is applied it must be managed effectively to deliver the best possible results while protecting members of the public from its misuse.

Extremely pleased
Norstrom said: “I am extremely pleased to have been asked to speak at this important conference. I believe that with the growth of CCTV in the UK, it is imperative that appropriate consideration is given to the latest CCTV standards and privacy issues – something which is a key feature of my work with the BSIA and on the National CCTV Strategy Board.

“Alongside this, advances in technology – from High Definition CCTV to video analytics and mobile CCTV – mean that there is much greater potential to use this surveillance technology to realise wider benefits than just for security. Examples of this wider view of CCTV include: bus operators using footage and associated vehicle telemetry – such as braking forces on a bus – to combat fraudulent insurance claims and retailers implementing video analytic techniques to measure customer footfall in a retail environment.”

Norstrom also heads-up the BSIA technical committee, TC/10, which focuses on CCTV standards and guidance and, is the security industry’s representative on the National CCTV Strategy Board which brings together key stakeholders such as the police and the Home Office.
