Places still Remain for Free South East Security Seminar

BSIA crimeEmpowering businesses to reduce crime is the theme at the heart of the British Security Industry Association’s forthcoming South East Business Crime Conference, which is set to take place in the heart of London on Thursday 27 November 2014.

Free to attend the event is organised by the BSIA in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police, with support from neighbouring forces including City of London, Sussex, Hampshire, Thames Valley, Kent and Essex.

Helping delegates to understand the latest risks facing their business is the core aim of the one-day event, which will also provide security companies with the opportunity to showcase the latest solutions to a wide range of buyers. This year’s event has been kindly sponsored by DISC and Facewatch.

The event is due to be formally opened by a representative from the Mayor of London’s office with other speakers including:

  • Crime reduction specialist, Neil Henson, who will be speaking on the Anti-Social Behaviour and Policing Act 2014 and its implications for community safety.
  • Commander Simon Letchford of the Metropolitan Police, who will be speaking about the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime’s (MOPAC) Business Crime Strategy.
  • DS Chris Felton from the City of London Police, who will be discussing Cyber Crime.
  • Ken Meanwell, from the Association of Chief Police Officers, Crime Prevention Initiatives, who will be speaking about Community Safety Accreditation Schemes
  • Event sponsors, DISC and Facewatch, will also be speaking about Business Crime Reporting Systems.

Last year’s event was attended by over 130 delegates from a diverse range of organisations across the South East, including Waterstones Booksellers Ltd, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Lancing College, Eastbourne Business Crime Group, Bank of England, Eastbourne Arndale Centre, Sussex Police, Surrey Police and the University of Portsmouth.

Combating emerging threats

100% of delegates who were surveyed about their experience at 2013’s event believed that the conference was a benefit to them, with a further 100% feeling that they were now better informed about the market place. 100% of respondents also rated the organisation of the event as either good or excellent.

This year’s event will take place at the Church House Conference Centre, situated just a short distance from Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament and facilitating improved access for delegates from across the South East region.

James Kelly, Chief Executive at the BSIA, comments: “With businesses facing a number of emerging threats such as cyber crime and fraud, the issue of business crime remains at the top of the corporate agenda. Working together with Police forces and other local organisations can help organisations to reduce the risk they face from crime and anti-social behaviour.

“Our event aims to bring together the South East business community to provide a wealth of expert advice and facilitate useful networking opportunities for business owners looking to source an effective solution to their security challenges.”
