Remote CCTV monitoring down under

RemGuard’s detector-activated Visual Management system is said to be providing overall ‘perimeter estate monitoring’ at an industrial estate in suburban Sydney.

The site is home to multi-national tenants and while the original intent was to employ after hours security guards on site, the high costs led ING Real Estate to look towards technological solutions.

“ING Industrial Fund’s main security concerns centred around how to maintain controlled after-hours access for authorized tenants with hundreds of employees and contractors”, said ING Real Estate’s Asset Manager Robert Ewing.

Although the estate is totally fenced, it remained susceptible to after-hours crime and vandalism as it is located in an industrial area that is largely deserted at night.

The RemGuard system provides tenants with strategically located outdoor sensors and cameras all linked to RemGuard’s Remote Video Response Centre (RVRC) via a 512k/512k Virtual Private Network ADSL link.

Whenever movement is detected in a protected area, RVRC security officers should be quickly alerted by the system. There are around 80 cameras and curtain PIR detectors installed across the site which are linked to RemVu Aquilas and RemVu Communicators.

The solution also includes PA loudspeakers in key areas, which should enable RVRC operators to verbally warn off identified trespassers before any actual break-in is attempted.

“Since RemGuard’s implementation began a couple of years ago, we haven’t experienced any major thefts or criminal events at Rosehill Industrial Estate”, said Ewing.
In 2003 ING Real Estate chose to implement an integrated RemGuard CCTV security solution at the same site.
