Sitel Electronics has launched an advanced range of security locks, safes and door access interface systems based on reading finger-prints via electronic sensors. The Fingerlocks brand marks Sitel’s foray into the biometric arena.
The Fingerlock will only open on identification of an enrolled finger-print. The locks can be programmed to accept a number of fingerprint identifications to allow only nomina-ted people to enter particular locations.
The primary security value with Fingerlock biometric technology over traditional lock systems is that there are no keys to lose or falsely duplicate, no passwords or codes to be broken or swipe cards to be falsi-fied via electronic skimmer devices.
Fingerlocks use a combination of biometric technology, state of the art electronics and high quality lock engineering. Procedures for enrolling or deleting of fingerprints is also made simple with LCD window exhibits, and once installed authentication for access is completed within a second.

IR Security & Safety’s Electronic Access Control Division (EACD) has launched the Schlage VIP (Value Integration Platform) locks, which enable users to monitor door openings with existing, third party access control panels and software.
It connects the specially designed door lock to a panel interface board (PIB) that connects to any present access control panel. Users access the VIP lock with either magnetic stripe or HID proximity cards.
The lock passes door status information such as door position or request to exit status via RS-485 communication from the lock to the panel via the PIB provided with the locks. The access control panel maintains control of the lock status and status indication on the VIP locks as it does with present electric strike or electromagnetic locking systems. All monitoring is captured at the remote monitoring station.
The VIP lock is installed by simply ‘prepping’ the door for the VIP lock and power transfer or hinge, running a single four conductor wire from the hinge to the PIB, installing the VIP lock and connecting the PIB to the access control panel.
The locks are available in cylindrical or mortise models, as well as exit trim with either magnetic card readers or HID proximity reader versions.

Electro-Replacement Ltd has introduced a range of audio and video door entry systems that combine state of the art electronic technology with designer styling.
The door panels are available in 1-10 station versions, and can be flush or surface mounted with in-built rain-proof covers. The aluminium covers give a lasting weather resistant finish and incorporates illuminated metal pushbuttons for ease of use.
Each kit comprises a door panel, handsets or monitors, 12V ac lock and 12 V ac power supply, suitable for din rail or surface mounting, and up to three handsets or monitors per station can be fitted.
Both audio and video versions give high quality, secure communications between caller and monitor or handset, while the video version incorporates an adjustable tilt camera and infra red light to ensure the camera operates at night.

Dubilier has introduced a new series of sounders and buzzers to its growing range of electromechanical products. They are aimed at quality critical applications such as smoke alarms, portable alarms and special needs equipment.
The new products include basic mechanical devices together with dynamic and electro-magnetic transducers and piezo ceramic transducers. They are available with sound outputs up to 92dB at 10cm and have an operating voltage of 1.0 – 15V. Piezo ceramic varieties have a sound output up to 105dB at 10cm and an operating voltage from 1.0 – 30V.
The range includes devices that are sealed for the wave solder and wash process, as well as the reflow process. Models are available with top sound ports as standard, in both through-hole and surface mount varieties, and come in different sizes.

Mills has introduced the Thruwall Locator to enable cable installers to predict precisely where the exit hole will appear on the blind side when drilling holes through walls.
Comprising a transmitter unit that is attached to one side of the wall and allocator unit that is used to scan the opposing face, the Thruwall locator provides a reliable and accurate means to pinpoint the position of the exit hole prior to drilling. The locator is accurate to within 10mm and can be used with walls up to 250mm thick. It is powered by a 9V PP3 type battery, and the hand held unit is highly portable with built-in circuitry that automatically switches the unit off after a period of inactivity.

<B>Fibre fencing</b>
Radiodetection, specialists in cable and pipeline detection, have made a major breakthrough in perimeter security. Secure Fence uses fibre optic cable technology as an advan-ced sensor to detect tiny movements and vibrations from any intrusion attempts. It is able to locate the intrusion to within plus or minus 50 metres, and is suitable for fences or perimeters up to 60 kilometres long.
Any alarm generated can be fed into the proprietary CAMS software or third party control software to interface with SCADA or CCTV systems. This allows intelligent event discrimination, ensuring low false alarm rates for maximum efficiency.
The system is said to be easy to install, requires no field power and is unaffected by interference from RFI, EMI, lightning or storms.

Auriga and its business partner Tyco are able to offer two new optical fibre cables from stock. While single loose tube cables with aramid yarns as strength members are industry standards, Auriga and Tyco now offer E-Glass yarned, rodent resist-ant, cables at no extra cost for all standard fibre specifications.
A very thin four-core cable designed for fibre-to-the-desk applications where duct/trunking space may be a premium is also on offer. It is 3.4mm in diameter, and is available in all standard fibre specifi-cations. The key benefit of this new internal cable is the higher density it gives for servicing data points in individual floor or wall boxes typic-ally in an office network installation.

Belhind Limited has won Sold Secure’s highest accolade with a Product Approval certificate in the Gold category for the Ceelok door security bolt.
Ceelok works on the principle of opposing forces, creating increased resistance as greater pressure is applied against it. It comprises a twin-sliding bolt, which is attached to the door itself and slides into corresponding holes in a metal locking plate screwed securely to the inner doorframe.
Ceelok is now available in a new improved model which also conforms to BS EN 12051 and features an anti-slide back pin which can be slotted into a corresponding hole in one arm of the bolt when in the locked posi-tion to prevent any movement of the bolt, resulting from vibration or an accidental knock.
The Ceelok can be installed using only a screwdriver and can be fitted to any wooden door. It is said to have consistently proven to be stronger than traditional door hinges.
The bolt is suitable for those with limited mobility, since it can be pushed into position by means of a simple large D-loop that is easily operated using the palm or side of the hand, or by simply using one’s fingers.

Israeli-based company, D-Fence Ltd has launched an advanced intrusion detection system which integrates easily with any security metal fence.
The D-Corative perimeter system enables users to choose from all decorative metal fences and combines them with high level security sensors. The D-Corative sensors are invisible and they sense all impacts on the perimeter fence, immediately sending an alarm only in a real intrusion attempt.
The system uses strain gauge sensor posts implemented with the latest technology to allow easy connectivity to existing fences.
It can operate in all weather and ground conditions and provides full supervision of the protected site, providing real-time data on each of the zones with sensor status. The system was chosen above six other systems to be installed at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.

Roxtec has introduced the lightweight ComPlus frame that is adaptable and easy to install, giving reliable environmental sealing on power or data cables passing through a barrier.
The ComPlus frame is modular and comprises a universal end frame (left or right fitting) and clip in centre sections. Two end frames create a small transit, sufficient for six to 48 cable penetrations, depending on diameter. This can be upgraded by installing as many centre sections as required, and users have the option to leave the moulded blanking plate in place until the extra aperture is needed.
Installing ComPlus frames is a simple, one-man job. Transits can be factory fitted to cabinets or instrumentation and pre-terminated cables used to further speed up site work. The blanking plates can also be knocked out to fit more MultiDiameter modules, which allow different diameters of cables or pipes to be secured by removing the module core and the right number of layers.
Transit frames are made from a light, strong zero-maintenance composite material. The fully assembled frames are IP68 rated and suited to deluge/immersion conditions.

<B>Eight camera recording</b>
Videte IT has extended its DTS entry line product range with an eight camera version. The DTS can display and record live images and play back archived images simultaneously. Every image is stored onto the PC hard drive in digital format in real-time and the motion detect feature enables automatic recording of events.
Images can be retrieved by cameras, date, time, alarm or frame and search results can subsequently be archived to CD or floppy disk. The plug and play device has an intuitive user design and can be integrated into existing surveillance systems with minimal installation.
Transmission is based on JPEG com-pression, enabling high quality images over a choice of ISDN and/or TCP/IP networks. Cameras and alarm inputs can be automatically transfigured.

Silent Witness has launched the LumaView IR 75 infrared illuminator giving tough, mission critical monitoring in low light or completely dark conditions. It enables IR-sensitive CCTV cameras to produce high quality images under night-time conditions without imposing intensive, obtrusive visible light illumination.
The LumaView IR 75 can be used with the company’s MagnaView and PrimaView line of true day/night and monochrome cameras.It is weather sealed for indoor or outdoor use and works with distances of up to 90 meters. There are three types of filter, overt, semi-covert and full covert illumination.

Ademco Video’s new AKJX8A series of keyboards has the flexibility to control its entire range of multiplexers and DVRs. Each keyboard gives the ability to perform an impressive number of tasks. The AKJX8AMX keyboard controls all multiplexer functions and permits comprehensive camera control, access to features such as presets, tours, remote reset, privacy zones and mimic tours.
Ademco Video’s multiplexers can also be daisy chained so that one AKJX8AMX keyboard can control up to eight 16-channel multiplexers and 128 cameras.
The AKJ8ADX is a keyboard controller for the ADEMCO Video multi channel AHDRs. One keyboard can be used to control an AHDR and all associated cameras. Up to three slave keyboards can cascade off a master keyboard, giving communication with any multiplexer, HDR or camera connected to the master.

American Fibertek Inc has launched multimode video and data fibre optic transceivers and receivers for Pelco’s Spectra III dome cameras. The M1410 series transceiver and companion M1420 series receiver and M1610 series transceiver use a single multimode optical fibre to transmit video with PTZ control signals for Pelco Spectra III dome cameras. Both series are designed to provide transparent operation without the need for any adjustments.
The M1410 series multimode transceiver (pictured) is an economically priced, low profile video and reverse data transceiver system that plugs into the back of a Pelco Spectra dome camera. Power for the unit is derived from the dome camera. The system uses one multimode optical fibre to transmit video and return RS422 P or D protocol for PTZ operation. The M1420 series receiver is available in module or card cage configurations which allow card cage capacity to be doubled using the company’s RRM-1420 rack card.
The M1610 series also plugs into the back box of Pelco’s Spectra II dome cameras with power provided from the host unit.

Network Video Technologies’ radical UTP video transmitter allows the benefits of unshielded twisted pair to be applied to any CCTV camera.
The NV-211T-M universal UTP transmitter is designed for use with any static, PTZ or dome camera at a much lower cost than previously. It features a radical design and is ultra-compact in size. It features a nine inch male BNC fly lead reduces installation time allowing connection directly to any camera and to UTP cable via screw terminals. The NV-211T-M can also be used within any internal or external camera housing and the transmitter does not require a power supply.
Video signals can be transmitted up to 1km over UTP, with the added benefits of adjustable cable loss equalisation, ground lifting, cross-talk immunity and transient protection applied to any installed camera with no need for additional hardware protection.
The NV-211T-M is also designed to be fully compatible with DVR technology, with interference-free images not adding superflous noise to picture content and increasing the storage space required. The product was on show at the Norbain Live 2003 regional events last month.

Mitsubishi Electric has launched the DX-NT400E which can accommo-date up to 600 Gb of hard disk recording space, using two 300 Gb HDDs. The unit does not come with hard drives allowing users to fit the memory to suit their own requirements.
The model also has a unique HDD caddy which is not only removable but also interchangeable, and users can also purchase additional caddies (DX-TR400). The interchangeable caddy means that recordings can be removed and stored, giving users a long term storage option.
A built-in multiplexer allows up to four cameras to be connected. Simultaneous recording and playback is available via the built-in full duplex facility. This enables pictures from the attached cameras to be displayed live in various formats or for recorded material to be searched and displayed without interrupting the recording process.
There are up to five selectable picture grades and nine recording time modes with up to 25 pictures per second per camera.

PI Vision’s Universal Video Manage-ment System gives users the benefit of mixing and matching a variety of technologies and standards in digital video recording, such as linking ana-logue or IP cameras to the system.
The UVMS enterprise family of DVRs includes the UVMS 5000 and the UVMS 3000, a fully featured entry-level DVR. They enable users to retain analogue cameras used on the system while adding IP network cameras when upgrading or extending their CCTV coverage. With the UVMS graphical user interface, the choice of camera and network technology is totally transparent to the client.
UVMS is immune from hardware or software failures. UVMS is compatible with most IP cameras, and images are recorded according to system-wide or individual channel settings. Dedicated Micros has introduced a 100 picture per second recording capability into their award winning range of DVRs with the launch of the DS2 Plus and improved BX2.
The BX2 models now have a maximum record rate of 100pps. It also includes a massive 1.2Tb model in addition to the 640Gb model, providing over four months on board storage at standard rates.
The 100pps DS2 Plus includes all the familiar features of the standard 50pps Digital Sprite 2 and comes in six, nine and 16 channel variants with a maximum 600Gb disk size.
