QCA approves SIA-endorsed guarding course

Attaining the qualification (or its equivalent) is now a requirement for security officers to obtain the SIA licence, which will be introduced from January 2005. The qualification, which was the first to be approved by the QCA on Monday 9 August, comprises two units: the role and responsibilities of a security officer and communication and conflict management.

Material to support the delivery of the qualification has been developed from existing SITO training courses (including the highly successful Basic Job Training programme and the conflict management programme devised in conjunction with current STEPS partner Maybo).

“I’d urge all manned security companies not to hesitate in starting to train their officers in advance of the sector being licensed next year,” SITO director Stefan Hay told SMT.

The total cost for the qualification order, processing of the examination paper and production of the final certificate will be GB pound 35 per officer.

Further information is available from the SITO Customer Services Team (tel: 01905 20004).
