Is chimney camera highest in UK?
Kent based installer Secure Engineering Ltd is feeling on top of the world. It has set a record for installing the highest camera in the south east of England … possibly the whole country.
The camera was installed at the top of the chimney on the remote Isle of Grain Power Station, 801ft (244m) above sea level.
Powergen appointed Secure Engineering to provide security around the vital utility site. The camera looks out over the construction area of the power station site, monitoring for both safety and security purposes.
The power station chimney, shares its title of “Tallest Structure in the South East” with Canary Wharf.
Installation and future maintenance of the camera requires Secure Engineering personnel to wear full protective clothing and equipment, including goggles, hard hat and high visibility clothing with tools carried up in rucksacks.
On discovering that they had installed the South East’s highest camera, Phil Stewkesbury, director of business development, said: “Top that!”.
Secure Engineering, based in Maidstone, has been established as a specialist CCTV supplier and installer since 1988.
Concentrating on commercial and industrial CCTV applications, its clients include Eurotunnel, Southern Water, Kent Police, Thames Water, Saga and the Port of Dover.
The Isle of Grain is in the marshlands on the eastern end of the Hoo Peninsula and is said to be the most remote location in Kent. The Isle power station generates electricity from oil for the National Grid.
So is this the highest camera installation in the UK? If you know of one that can “top that” let the editor know via our comment panel (above right).
