Axis demonstrate new retail solutions

The latest network cameras were on display at the annual show in Birmingham as part of the company’s continued move into the retail market. Products included the new AXIS 211M Network Camera which uses megapixel resolution for close-up surveillance in stores.

Two new megapixel dome network cameras, the AXIS 216MFD and AXIS 216MFD-V also featured on the AXIS stand. Both domes include a 1.3 megapixel sensor with progressive scan, which offer to reduced motion blur in comparison with traditional analogue cameras.

The standard AXIS 216MFD version has a tamper-resistant plastic cover, which AXIS say makes it suitable for indoor video surveillance, and the AXIS 216MFD-V features a rugged, vandal-resistant casing with a metal base for indoor environments subject to vandalism.

Axis also offered a new network camera for ‘the most demanding retail environments’. The AXIS 223M Network Camera is a 2.0 megapixel camera that aims to deliver exceptional image detail with more than four times the number of pixels found on high resolution analogue cameras.

Axis’ cameras have recently worked with IBM’s smart surveillance system (S3), a suite focused on advanced indexing and analytics to support loss prevention and fraud detection.

Axis also used two AXIS 212PTZ Network Cameras and people counting software to collect data about people movements on and off their stand at the show. The data can then be made available in real-time information or stored for later analysis.

Steve Gorski, the Managing Director at Axis believes there is a great deal of potential for this technology in the retail sector.

“We will be talking to retailers about the benefits of integrating network video systems into the array of IT solutions that retailers are already using to understand customer behaviour and reduce shrinkage.”, he said.
