Stinger system gets smart

The stinger – manufactured by Appian Technology – recognises licence plates and associated imagery, and transmits results using integral communication interfaces (including GSM/GPRS or 3G and 802.911 WLAN and 100Mbps Ethernet).

Users can select a range of camera and IR illumination options, including dual cameras and long range illumination. A principal feature is its use of high resolution optical zoom cameras, both for ANPR and high definition overview/contextual imaging.

The zoom functionality means the Stinger system can be rapidly optimised to suit differing plate and environmental conditions at ANPR capture points. All camera settings may be controlled and adjusted remotely in real time.

The robust processor is designed to operate in harsh environmental conditions, including extreme temperature fluctuations. It is capable of handling up to four separate video inputs, and each Stinger has the capability to connect and process imagery from a ‘slave’ Appian Cobra dual ANPR camera. It can integrate additional electronic sensors, devices and applications, including DSRC/RFID, speed and red light detection devices – all controlled by the Stinger.
