Centre for Training Excellence opens for business

Although the main focus is on the supply of tailored, licensed CCTV training (encompassing advanced CCTV operator instruction, CCTV management and legislation training in Human Rights and Data Protection Act issues), the Centre for Training Excellence is also well-placed to offer clients a range of specialist training courses in areas such as conflict management and resolution, security guarding, door supervision and vehicle immobilisation.

The primary focus of the Centre is the learner. As such, a maximum of 12 students are permitted on each course to ensure higher learning efficiencies. All course programmes are led by the principal training instructor – former British Library security manager Michael Jasper – for theory sessions, and two training instructors for practical work. The course instructors are all fully-qualified with CCTV and security sector skills, and accredited by examination body edexcel.

Michael Jasper, a Fellow of The Security Institute, boasts 25 years’ experience in the security profession (15 of them spent working on major CCTV projects). He holds three training qualifications, has a NEBOSH Certificate and a Diploma in Security Risk Management. Michael is also a member of Security Management Today’s Editorial Advisory Board.

Speaking at the launch of the joint venture between NCP Services and Islington Council, NCP Services chief executive Ian Kavanagh commented: “It’s fair to say that three or four years’ ago, Islington’s reputation and that of NCP in terms of training was a little under fire. We weren’t covering ourselves in glory. That being the case, we set about changing our management structure as well as our learning and development culture. The Council has helped us with this process. Locally, new managers have come in and done an excellent job. That has led to Islington Borough Council and NCP Services recently signing a ten-year agreement to deliver first class services to clients.”

Gary Griffiths – head of parking at Islington Council – added: “As a local authority, it has been a huge challenge for us to undertake all of the accreditation processes, including Investors in People and ISO 9000. This new training facility represents a huge step forward for us and proves that we are forging ahead. Having agreed the project some eight or nine months ago, it’s tremendous to see it all come together.”
