Preview: The first meeting of the London Fraud Forum

Regional fraud forums are nothing new, with the first established in the North East in 2005. Given that 70% of the UK’s fraud is centred in and around the capital, it may come as a surprise that the London Fraud Forum (LFF) was launched just three months ago, back in June.

Comprising members from the academic, legal and business sectors, as well as public sector and police organisations, the LFF aims to stop fraud before it happens. Members believe that through sharing best practice on prevention, education and detection, they can make London a tough gig for fraudsters.

The LFF hopes to unify a wide variety of organisations to tackle the problem, using the expertise of national, multinational and international corporations and law enforcement partners to help smaller businesses improve their fraud prevention techniques.

The keynote speaker will be Lord Stevens, former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service.

Chairman Alan Day said the forum would be running meetings, seminars and ‘master classes’, all aimed at helping firms to avoid financial crime.

“We also plan to create an invaluable networking environment in which you can establish and cement contacts – from within your immediate sphere and outside – who face exactly the same daily fraud-related issues as you do.”

The first forum, which will be held at London’s Barbican Centre on the 4th October, is hoping to attract 200 delegates.
