Pictures of seven robbers who are accused of carrying out Britain’s biggest cash robbery were today released for the first time.
The close-up CCTV images taken at the Securitas depot in Tonbridge, Kent, show the men, some of them armed, who stole GB pound 53 million from high-security vaults in February last year.

Tony Martin, the chairman of locallife.co.uk, says that one explanation could be that Northern Rock’s former patrons are taking it into their own hands to safeguard their dough: “It may be a cliche, but it could be anxious Northern Rock customers are stashing their cash under the mattress.”

Hundreds of failed asylum-seekers deported from the United Kingdom have been beaten and racially abused by British escort teams who are paid to take them back to their home countries.
The scale of the alleged abuse has been uncovered in a joint investigation by The Independent and a group co-ordinating the representation and medical care of failed asylum-seekers.
