Synectics scores success in U.S. casino market

Only two years after setting sail for the uncharted North American security market, Synectics has rapidly captured key customers and millions of dollars in sales in the hard fought, fast-growing casino industry.

Following its acquisition of AlphaPoint LLC, a California-based IT/CCTV gaming industry reseller in May 2005, Synectics Systems Inc embarked on an aggressive campaign to penetrate the 1,400-casino marketplace – projected to generate a staggering $100 billion in 2007.

With the installation of its 1,500-camera flagship DVR installation in a world-renowned gaming resort in Eastern Canada, Synectics’ enterprise-class digital recording and SynergyPro control software has set new surveillance standards.

“Synectics” (si-‘nek-tiks) literally means ‘to creatively blend diverse parts to form a superior whole’. That underlying corporate philosophy has paid great dividends in the fractured US CCTV marketplace.

The company’s agnostic hardware and its software bridges analogue with digital recording, and provides pathways to third party systems.

Hybrid solutions

North American casinos are ideally suited for these kinds of hybrid security solutions. For example, it enables operators to quickly select camera views by touching a graphical floor plan on their monitor, as opposed to memorising a thousand camera numbers.

Users can also combine the responsiveness of their analogue matrix with the convenience of digital video, because both systems are controlled with the same user interface. Most importantly, ‘events’ can be instantaneously retrieved based on user-defined data base searches; from integrated cash register, access control, player tracking or fire alarm systems.

In this 24/7/365, tightly regulated market, SynergyPro automatically detects video loss. It ‘hot swaps’ failed channels and keeps a live database log of where the video is stored for playback.

Image quality is crucial when it comes to monitoring face cards, cash and cheats, and Synectics produces real-time (30fps PAL), full-frame (4cif) motion picture quality video, with data rates as low as 1.2 Mbit/second.

These are just a few of the distinguishing characteristics that are helping Synectics secure dozens of new casino customers in Canada, the US and the Bahamas. Systems are now recording well over 10,000 cameras in North America, in some of the largest casinos in the world.
