Business organisations welcome Olympics network
Up to a fifth of all supply chain opportunities are expected to go through CompeteFor, which has been described by Olympics organisers as a business ‘dating agency’.
The site will give thousands of companies the chance to register as suppliers or compete for sub-contracting opportunities offered by large companies that already hold Olympic contracts.
“The delivery of the London 2012 Games will provide opportunities for businesses of all sizes in many sectors,” said John Wright, national chairman of the federation of small businesses.
“We welcome the launch of the London 2012 Business Network and urge small businesses to get involved. We are particularly pleased that large contractors will be compelled to make public, via the network, the sub-contracting opportunities that will be most suited to smaller companies.
However, he said the new website does not guarantee that small businesses will actually get work.
“The ODA has made a good start with the London 2012 Business Network, but we will be keeping a beady eye on the process in the coming months and years to make sure it delivers genuine opportunities for small businesses,” he added.
The website currently lists opportunities for a CCTV/lighting contractor, a C4i security systems supplier and a perimeter security contractor, among others.
To get involved, visit the London 2012 website.
