SIA chairman Baroness Ruth Henig presents CPP and PSP Certificates at ASIS Dinner

60 guests enjoyed an excellent evening in the company of the recipients of the CPP (Certified Protection Professional) and PSP (Physical Security Professional) Awards, who were presented with their certificates by Baroness Ruth Henig (chairman of the Security Industry Authority).

These certifications are the only truly internationally recognised security qualifications, and are aimed at middle to senior management.

In her address, Baroness Henig said: “I know from having met and talked to many members of ASIS that the main driving force here is a commitment to improving and professionalising the private security industry. The presentations this evening demonstrate just how successful you are being. As a result of your success, you have become – if I may describe you in this way – beacons shining out in the landscape of private security.”

Talking about her aspiration (shared by ASIS) that the security industry will become a security profession, the Baroness added: “My vision of the future includes the hearing of careers teachers encouraging students, male or female, to go into the private security industry, and for the sector to be seen at all levels as innovative, forward-looking and totally professional.”

In praise of ASIS

Baroness Henig spoke in praise of ASIS. “To really embed the value of recognition of success, we need to have benchmarks for middle and senior managers. Without a benchmark for excellence, it becomes more difficult for the industry to professionalise itself. It’s in setting these benchmarks that ASIS is such an important body – and we at the SIA greatly value the fact that ASIS exists to define achievement at these higher levels of management.”

The Baroness continued: “We know that industry values this too, as demonstrated by the fact that The Prudential, among other prestigious companies, has made a point of putting its security team through CPP and PSP where relevant to the practitioner’s role. We also value the fact that ASIS is committed to the regular updating of members’ skills by giving them access to a comprehensive system of CPD.”

“Many congratulations to those receiving awards, to ASIS and to those who have helped to design and deliver the training. Where you lead, may the whole industry follow in due course.”
