IBM is one of the IT companies moving out of the labs into the real world, and in 2007 won surveillance contracts in government, retail, education, and finance – including the National Car Parks contract in the UK.
IBM said that one of the keys to its award win was its Smart Surveillance Solution (SSS) technology that enables clients to perform data analysis of video sequences either in real-time or from recordings.
The computing giant said its technology can help clients gather critical information, reduce costs, and improve response time by integrating data from multiple sources – including video cameras, radar, sensors and audio inputs – and apply metadata search parameters and event prioritization criteria.
Dilip Sarangan, industry analyst with Frost & Sullivan’s AutoID and Security Practice, said that IBM had won the award due to its focus on reducing business problems and complexity for end-users.
“In the year since entering the market, IBM has created ripples in the industry and developed into one of the heavyweights in video surveillance,” he added.
“The Smart Surveillance Solution (SSS) is recognized by partners, competitors and end-users as the most robust video management engine with integrated analytics.”
