Giving the Keynote Address at the recent General Assembly of the Ligue Internationale des Societes de Surveillance [the Association of the major global private security organisations] in Brussels, Buckles commented: “Our response to the CNI could well open up new markets and income streams, while also transforming peoples’ perceptions of the security industry. Not only the opinions of investors but also the man and woman in the street. The employees of tomorrow.”
Buckles’ organisation has been campaigning vociferously for legislation and regulation that will ensure private sector operators protect the CNI, and he referred to the National Security Strategy that recognises contractors have a vital role to play here.
Buckles warned the audience of industry leaders that, if the CNI ‘opportunity’ is not grasped by the private security sector, there may never be another one with such a level of global potential to transform the industry.
The recommendations from several UK Government-sponsored reviews conclude that private sector expertise should be used to supplement the efforts of the police and the emergency services.
“Resources must be shared for the good of the nation,” commented Buckles. “We need a formalised structure and accepted practices for private and public sector security.”
