Take Up The SLT Challenge
David Adams – the fundraising manager at the Trust – told SMT Online: “For over 22 years now, the Trust has worked to help people avoid violence and aggression. We deal with issues as diverse as the safety of London minicabs, stalking, alcohol and safety, safety abroad, on public transport and lone worker safety.”
Like any other charitable concern, in order for the SLT to keep this work going it needs the public’s support. “In return,” enthused Adams, “we’re delighted to offer supporters a choice of amazing challenges in which they can take part. In short, that means both supporters and the Trust benefit. It’s a win-win situation.”
Those who decide to take up one of the challenges will pay a registration fee and raise the minimum sponsorship. The Trust will pay for any flights, transfers, accommodation and meals while participants are on one of the following amazing trips:
Trek the Great Wall of China (10-18 October)
China leaves a lasting impression on all who go there. It’s a country immersed in history, mythology and ancient traditions. This trek takes you along sections of the Great Wall, one of the most fascinating and important archaeological finds ever made and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Those taking part in the trek will also have free time to spend in historic Beijing.
Climb Mount Kilimanjaro (17-27 September)
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, and one of the largest free-standing mountains in the world. This is one of the mountains that every trekker and mountaineer in the world wants to conquer.
Kilimanjaro is more or less 24 miles wide and 49 miles long. In truth, it’s more ecosystem than mountain. Those taking part in this challenge will be climbing the Mount Kibo peak.
Cycling: London to Paris (17-20 July)
This weekend-long challenge links two great European cities and covers around 300 km in three days.
You’ll cycle through undulating countryside towards the south coast before crossing into France by ferry. From Dieppe, you continue through sleepy Normandy villages with some challenging hills to conquer along the way, until reaching the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
London 10k Run (12 July)
The Trust has six places available on its team for 2009, so if you’re interested in running for personal safety please get in touch with the SLT direct. The route is a very scenic tour through central London, and is suitable for runners of all ages and abilities.
Sponsored Parachute Jump
The Trust is looking for people all over the country to make a sponsored parachute jump on its behalf, and in return is more than willing to take care of the bill! There are three different types of parachute jump to choose from, and you can jump from an airfield near you.
