2009 set to be ‘golden year’ for Indian security industry

The year 2009 will be a golden year for the Indian security industry, feels Rohit Khubchandani, area manager, Middle East and India, Milestone Systems. He is bullish about India due to its strong economic growth, evolving security industry and the growth of the industry at around 35 per cent.

Khubhchandani believes that verticals such as video intelligence and video management will witness phenomenal growth. He says that this comes with the backdrop of the recent terror attacks across India. Sectors such as roads, rail, airports, oil and gas, retail, city surveillance, traffic management are areas that see significant demand for security products.

Khubhchandani is of the opinion that this is the right time for the security industry to have a significant presence in India. In this context, Milestone would be setting up its India office by the end of this year.

Training and certification
Though system integrators, installers, manufactures are well aware of Milestone products, the immediate focus and challenge would be to create awareness and educate the end users of Milestone and its several products that caters to almost every segment of the industry. The company is also planning to bring its training and certification programmes to India.

Some of Milestone’s on-going projects in India are BHEL in West Bengal, BPCL installation in Mumbai, Cochin Shipyard, Kolkatta IT Park, Mysore Railways, and an HPCL installation which is on the HPCL Pipeline running from Vizag to Hyderabad.

According to Khubhchandani, Milestone Systems is the leading global developer of open platform software for managing IP network-based video surveillance. Its latest Milestone XProtect software is considered powerful and advanced.

The open platform allows best-of-breed solutions to ‘video enable’ business: reducing costs, optimizing processes, protecting people and assets – and ultimately increasing value in an organization’s products and services, the company claims.

Customer needs
In offerings scaled to different customer needs, XProtect solutions support a wide choice in network hardware like ACTi, Arecont, Axis, Bosch, D-Link, FLIR, Infinova, IQinVision, JVC, Lumenera, Mobotix, Panasonic, Pelco, Pixord, Sony, Samsung, Sanyo, Toshiba, VCS, Verint, Vivotek – more than 50 manufacturers and over 500 different models.

Milestone solutions are in more than 45,000 customer installations worldwide, from all industry sectors: retail, hospitality, finance, manufacturing, distribution, education, healthcare, utilities, property management, transportation, government, and the military.

Khubhchandani says the company is focused on an international approach with strong partner channel strategy, where local representation brings closer understanding of each customer’s needs. Strong alliances with the leading hardware manufacturers are also an important link in the business model, with support of its latest network devices.

Milestone’s business operations based out from the headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark to subsidiaries and sales offices currently in Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, and the U.S.
