SSAIB enhances management and inspection team

The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) is again expanding its inspection and auditing function with the addition of Lynn Watts-Plumpkin as scheme manager and Dave Roscoe, who takes on the role of Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) specialist and inspector.

In her new role, Watts-Plumpkin is primarily responsible for the management and development of SSAIB’s involvement in the monitoring schemes and the security guarding schemes, including the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme and the Private Security Authority (PSA) Contractor and Employee Licensing Schemes operational in the Republic of Ireland.

It’s felt that Watts-Plumpkin’s experience and qualifications will enhance the SSAIB’s expertise in ISO 9000, Environmental Management and Health and Safety (ISO 18001).

Prior to joining the SSAIB full-time, Lynn conducted Health and Safety and fire risk assessments for all 200 Laura Ashley stores in the UK, carried out security guarding surveys at Harrods, The Science Museum and several notable establishments in Ireland (including premises owned and run by Belfast City Council), and reviewed the associated policies and procedures.

In addition to being an inspector for the SSAIB on the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme, she’ll provide training to new SIA personnel and the personnel of other assessing bodies, and is a qualified CCTV trainer.

Watts-Plumpkin is a Fellow of The Security Institute, a technician for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and an associate member of the International Institute for Risk and Safety Managers.

Looking after the ARCs

Dave Roscoe joins the management and inspection team with special responsibility for ARCs. Consequently, he represents the SSAIB on CENELEC WG 14 which is currently drafting a European Standard for ARCs. Roscoe also has responsibility for inspections and audits in the North West of England and Ireland (North and South).

Roscoe boasts over 24 years’ experience and an impressive CV. He’s a qualified installer, product engineer, maintenance and remote diagnostics engineer, as well as being an experienced trainer.

Prior to joining the SSAIB, Dave’s industry experience was gained initially as part of Shorrock Security Systems, which subsequently became part of Rentokil Initial (renamed Initial Electronic Security). Further mergers saw a move to UTC, who owned Chubb.

While starting his career ‘on the tools’, Roscoe has held many technical and management roles, mainly across the North West region. More recently, his focus has been on ARCs and detector-activated CCTV (BS 8418) operations.

Roscoe has technical liaison experience with Redcare, Dualcom, WebWayOne and Chiron IP signalling.

In 2003, Dave was part of a small project team which put together – from concept to completion – a new ARC on a green field site which went on to house over 50 operators. This installation was subsequently regarded as one of the best facilities in the country.

Throughout his career, he has represented various bodies and sectors on many Technical Committees operated by the British Security Industry Association, the British Standards Institution and CENELEC.
